Where NATURE inspires...

From my perspective, outdoor learning in Kindergarten definitely embodies the thinking, “where NATURE inspires our learning INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the traditional classroom.” The experience gained for reluctant learners and students with special learning needs in the St. Ann Catholic School Kindergarten classroom was transformational and exciting to watch grow over the school year. As the learning journey progressed, I witnessed enthusiasm, determination and deep critical thinking in a safe environment of freedom and fun each time the students returned from St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre. Natural outdoor play ignited the wonder in the eyes of the students and creativity mixed with risk-taking challenged all learners to grow in confidence. These experiences promoted positive social interactions with other students as well as the educators.
The success of this TLLP project, student learning and engagement is largely a result of the relationships, mindset and deep commitment of the educator team to capture the strengths and needs of each child in a safe learning environment. The educators are to be highly commended for their dedication to the overall learning and growth of each child in their care. I believe the seeds have been planted for these curious young learners to continue to learn and grow to their full potential, as well as to become stewards of the earth and global citizens, while respecting their natural environment and the many gifts from God our Creator.
Respectfully,
Donna Carricato, Principal
